Two young AB InBev marketeers represent Belgium in the global Young Marketers Competition in Cannes

Jupiler Brand Manager Josse Peremans and Leffe Brand Manager Alicia Du Bois win the prestigious Belgian competition

The Young Marketers Competition is organised by Cannes Lions, a prestigious organisation that rewards excellence in creative marketing and communication. The competition for the best Belgian team in the national Young Marketers Competition was won by Senior Brand Manager Jupiler Josse Peremans and Senior Brand Manager Leffe Alicia Du Bois. They worked together as a duo to compete against other prominent players in the Belgian business community. Alicia and Josse will defend our Belgian honor during the International Festival of Creativity in Cannes while competing against 33 countries, including international superpowers like Japan, India, China, Australia and Brazil.

Strong competition

"At the request of our marketing director, we participated in the competition of Young Marketeer 2017 in Cannes, an organization of Brightfish", says Josse Peremans, Senior Brand Manager Jupiler at AB InBev. "All participants first received a masterclass in Client Briefing offered by UBA, ACC and Brightfish. The contest consisted of creating a fictional briefing based on 10 principles to obtain the perfect briefing we learned in the masterclass. We only got 24 hours to finish the briefing, so it was a race against the clock. Alicia and myself were declared the winners afterwards."

"It is a huge honor to win the Belgian (pre)selection, because the competition was tough", says Alicia Du Bois, Senior Brand Manager Leffe at AB InBev. "We first competed against other duos from prominent companies such as Colruyt, Ikea, Unilever, Douwe Egberts and ING. A strong competition like this one makes winning extra valuable. It is also very unique to be able to measure yourselve up against other marketers from other companies and sectors. It keeps us on our toes".

In it to win it

The AB InBev team will now defend the Belgian honor at the global competition during the Festival of Creativity in Cannes at the end of June. Contrary to the Belgian competition, the international competition will ask all participants to create the same briefing for a non-profit organization. "That does not necessarily have to be a disadvantage. I have worked for an orphanage in Zambia before I started working at AB InBev, so that experience can certainly help us", says Alicia Du Bois.

What is the chance they will win? "To begin with, we are already superproud that we won in Belgium, which was a true professional recognition. It is new and exciting for both of us, but of course we are also very ambitious. We are in it to win it. That just lies in our nature and in the DNA of AB InBev", says Josse Peremans.

All together supporting Alicia & Josse

"I am very proud of Alicia and Josse"says AB InBev Marketing Director Arnaud Hanset. "In addition, they form a good and complementary team. Where Josse's creativity is outstanding, Alicia has more business reflexes, both of which are necessary to make it in the marketing world. I'm very pleased that we are capable of offering certain opportunities to talented people like Alicia and Josse, in which they are able to shine as business professionals. As a director, nothing is more beautiful than being able to count on a fantastic team" .

"The fact that we have great employees does not surprise me",
says Aurélie Piette, People Director at AB InBev. "Josse en Alicia are proof that our business culture and strict selection criteria are working. Both have been Global Management Trainees, already had several functions and are working hard to make use of their full potential. And they are not even 30 years old. As a company, we give them opportunities, but they must of course take care of themselves. Make it Yours! And that is exactly what they are doing. We are going to support Alicia and Josse to the fullest, all together."
